Who We Are

Our family began in the packaging industry in the mid 1990's as a distributor of specialty plastic bags with a particular focus on environmentally friendly solutions. In the early 2000's we were the first to introduce degradable plastics to the US market. Shortly after, we added our first line of paper bags made from 100% recycled materials. Wanting to create value for our customers, we developed a full color printing process using water-based inks.

Our experience with printing led to the development of a high-speed proprietary process to print on cotton cloth bags. At the time, however, cotton bags were available as imports only. The quality was inconsistent, suppliers went in and out of business quickly and, worst of all, lead times could run anywhere from 8 weeks to 6 months!

So what to do? We had a great printing process but a really hard time getting quality bags. Then ... the Aha Moment! We'll make our own bags right here in the US. And that's how BasicCloth Bags came to be.

Basically making the bags is a very simple process. First the rough bags are cut to size from rolls of fabric. Then the top casing is sewn using a specially adapted machine to create the turned seam in a single pass. The cased bags are then sent through a serger, stitching the bottom and sides to final dimensions. The serging process trims the bags to size and also adds a safety stitch for extra strength. The bags are then turned (since they are inside out after serging) and the casings are punched for string. Using pre-cut strings, the strings are added based on customer specifications.

And that's about it. The finished bags are inspected, counted and sent off to printing.
